Overview

L-phenylalaninol is a chiral amino alcohol derived from the reduction of the carboxy group of L-phenylalanine to an alcohol. It is classified as an amphetamine derivative and serves primarily as a chiral building block in pharmaceutical synthesis, enabling the production of enantiomerically pure drugs. L-phenylalaninol has been studied for its anticancer and antacid activities; in melanoma cells, it increases cytochrome c reductase and tau-glutamyl transpeptidase activity while inhibiting cell proliferation. It also inhibits intestinal absorption of phenylalanine and may decrease gastric acid secretion and ulcer formation. Beyond pharmaceuticals, it is used in biochemical research on amino acid metabolism, as well as in flavoring agents, fragrances, cosmetics for moisturizing properties, and food products for its sweet taste[1][4][5].
