Overview

L9LS is a long-acting monoclonal antibody developed for Plasmodium falciparum malaria prophylaxis. It is a laboratory-made version of a naturally occurring antibody called L9, derived from the blood of a volunteer who had received an investigational malaria vaccine. The antibody prevents malaria by neutralizing the parasites in the skin and blood before they can infect liver cells. L9LS is more potent than its predecessor CIS43LS, allowing for subcutaneous administration rather than intravenous infusion. It has demonstrated high protective efficacy in clinical trials with an estimated half-life of 56 days.
