La-MC1RL-DOTA is a non-radioactive lanthanum-labeled version of the MC1R-specific ligand (MC1RL) conjugated to the DOTA chelator. It was developed as a control agent for the targeted alpha therapy 225Ac-MC1RL-DOTA. The ligand, MC1RL, has high affinity and selectivity for the melanocortin 1 receptor (MC1R), which is highly expressed in uveal and cutaneous melanomas but not in most normal tissues. In preclinical studies, La-MC1RL-DOTA was used as a non-radioactive control to evaluate the efficacy of the alpha-emitting counterpart in mouse models of melanoma.
