Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lab4S is a specific multi-strain live biotherapeutic product (LBP) developed by Lab4 Probiotics (Cultech Ltd). It comprises a defined consortium of four probiotic strains: *Lactobacillus acidophilus* (CUL60 and CUL21), *Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis* (CUL34), and *Bifidobacterium bifidum* (CUL20). Lab4S is primarily investigated for its ability to preserve the diversity and stability of the gut microbiota during antibiotic therapy and to limit the expansion of the antibiotic resistome (the collection of antibiotic resistance genes within the gut). By maintaining a healthy microbial balance, Lab4S aims to prevent antibiotic-associated diarrhea and reduce the potential for horizontal gene transfer of resistance markers among intestinal bacteria. Clinical research has demonstrated that the administration of Lab4S can significantly attenuate the impact of broad-spectrum antibiotics on the gut microbiome and reduce the total abundance of antibiotic resistance genes.
