Labetuzumab is a humanized monoclonal antibody that specifically targets CEACAM5 (carcinoembryonic antigen-related cell adhesion molecule 5), a glycoprotein overexpressed on the surface of various cancer cells, most notably in colorectal carcinoma. By binding to CEACAM5, labetuzumab can inhibit tumor growth and mediate immune effector functions such as antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC). It has been investigated primarily for use in radioimmunotherapy and as part of experimental targeted therapies for cancers expressing CEACAM5. Labetuzumab’s precise targeting allows it to deliver cytotoxic agents directly to malignant cells while sparing healthy tissue, potentially reducing side effects compared with conventional chemotherapy[1][2][6].
