Overview

LABP-111 is a small molecule drug that acts as a stimulant of Lanthionine Synthetase C-Like 2 (LANCL2), a protein involved in immunoregulatory and metabolic pathways. It was initially developed by Landos Biopharma for the treatment of autoimmune and metabolic diseases, specifically targeting indications such as type 1 diabetes mellitus and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). The drug is classified as both an antihyperglycaemic agent and hepatoprotectant due to its proposed mechanisms. As of early 2023, development rights were transferred from Landos Biopharma to Dr. Josep Bassaganya-Riera, the company’s founder, along with other LANCL-targeting assets. LABP-111 reached preclinical development but has since been discontinued[1][2][3][4][8].
