Lacirex

Lacirex is an orally administered, lipophilic dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker containing the active ingredient lacidipine. Marketed by Laboratori Guidotti (a subsidiary of the Menarini Group), it is indicated for the treatment of hypertension, either as monotherapy or in combination with other antihypertensive agents. The drug's mechanism of action involves the selective inhibition of voltage-dependent L-type calcium channels in vascular smooth muscle, which prevents transmembrane calcium influx and leads to peripheral vasodilation. Due to its high lipophilicity, Lacirex is characterized by an intrinsically slow onset of action and a prolonged duration of effect, which helps avoid the reflex tachycardia often associated with rapid-acting vasodilators.
