Overview

Lacripep is a first-in-class, investigational synthetic 19-amino acid peptide fragment derived from the natural tear protein lacritin. It retains all known biological activity of the full-length lacritin protein and is designed as a topical therapy to restore ocular surface homeostasis by replacing deficient or dysfunctional endogenous proteins in patients with dry eye disease (DED), particularly those associated with primary Sjögren's syndrome. Lacripep acts as a broad regulator of ocular surface health, optimizing all three layers of the tear film and promoting corneal health without causing irritation. Its mechanism involves modulation of eye proteins to restore basal tearing and homeostasis rather than simply masking symptoms. Developed by TearSolutions based on research at the University of Virginia, Lacripep has demonstrated safety and clinically significant improvements in signs and symptoms in Phase I/II clinical trials for moderate-to-severe DED due to primary Sjögren's syndrome[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8].
