Overview
Lacrisol is an approved ophthalmic solution developed and manufactured by Bruschettini for the treatment of alterations of the ocular surface, including dry eye syndrome (lacrimal insufficiency) and for the disinfection of the ocular mucosa. It is a fixed-dose combination of hypromellose (hydroxypropyl methylcellulose) and benzalkonium chloride. Hypromellose acts as a lubricant and humectant that mimics natural tears, increasing viscosity and moisture retention on the corneal surface. Benzalkonium chloride serves as an antiseptic agent to disinfect the ocular surface. Lacrisol is administered topically as eye drops.
