Overview

Lacrisomes are a collagen-based drug delivery system designed for ophthalmic use, specifically for the treatment of dry eyes. They consist of collagen pieces chemically altered with the inclusion of a lipid (such as cetyl alcohol) and suspended in a viscous vehicle. This formulation allows for simplified application into the lower forniceal space, aiming to provide high and sustained levels of drugs and/or lubricants to the cornea, offering a soothing effect and prolonged comfort for patients. They are a modification of Collasomes, incorporating a lipid for enhanced efficacy in dry eye conditions.
