Overview
Lacrystat is a commercially available artificial tear eye drop formulation used for ocular lubrication. It is primarily indicated for the relief of dry eye symptoms and ocular irritation. In a clinical setting, Lacrystat has been studied as a prophylactic treatment to prevent dacryostenosis (lacrimal duct obstruction) in patients undergoing chemotherapy with docetaxel, which is known to be secreted in tears and cause inflammation of the tear ducts. The product functions by mechanically washing away dacryotoxic agents and maintaining the hydration of the ocular surface. It is manufactured by Meda Pharma, a subsidiary of Viatris.
