Overview

This is a combination intravenous formulation containing lactated Ringer's solution and oxytocin. Lactated Ringer's solution is an isotonic crystalloid fluid composed of sodium chloride, sodium lactate, potassium chloride, and calcium chloride in water. It is used for fluid and electrolyte replenishment in patients with low blood volume or low blood pressure, as well as to treat dehydration, metabolic acidosis, or to facilitate the delivery of IV medications[1][3][5]. Oxytocin is a peptide hormone that stimulates uterine contractions by acting on oxytocin receptors in the uterine smooth muscle; it is commonly used to induce labor or control postpartum bleeding. The combination may be used in obstetric settings where both volume resuscitation and induction/augmentation of labor are required.
