Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lactflat is an oral combination medication developed and marketed by Farmayala Pharmaceutical Company, primarily indicated for the management of symptoms associated with lactose intolerance and gastrointestinal gas. The product contains two active ingredients: lactase (beta-galactosidase) and simethicone. Lactase is an exogenous enzyme that hydrolyzes lactose into the simple sugars glucose and galactose, thereby preventing the fermentation of undigested lactose by colonic bacteria, which typically results in bloating, flatulence, and osmotic diarrhea. Simethicone is an anti-foaming agent that acts as a surfactant, reducing the surface tension of gas bubbles within the stomach and intestines. This physical action allows smaller gas bubbles to coalesce into larger ones that are more easily expelled through belching or flatus. Lactflat is commercially available in the Ecuadorian market as a pharmaceutical product designed to provide both metabolic support for lactose digestion and symptomatic relief from abdominal distension.
