Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The lactic acid bacteria probiotic is a high-dose investigational live biotherapeutic product developed by TNO (Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research). It consists of a specific blend of live lactic acid bacteria (LAB) strains as the active ingredient. The product is designed to modulate the gut mucosal immune system and intestinal microbiota to prevent or mitigate gastrointestinal disturbances. It has been evaluated in randomized, placebo-controlled human challenge trials involving healthy volunteers infected with attenuated enterotoxigenic *Escherichia coli* (ETEC) to assess its efficacy in reducing mucosal inflammation and traveler's diarrhea. The mechanism of action involves the stabilization of gut bacterial populations, modulation of innate immunity, and protection against pathogen-induced dysbiosis.
