Overview

Lactic acid topical cream is a skincare product containing lactic acid, an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that functions as both a keratolytic agent and an emollient. As a keratolytic, it softens and dissolves keratin, promoting cell turnover and exfoliation of dead skin cells. As an emollient, it forms a protective layer that traps moisture in the skin. Typically available in 5-12% concentrations, with higher concentrations (12%) shown to affect both epidermal and dermal layers, while lower concentrations (5%) primarily affect the epidermis.
