Lacticaseibacillus casei ATCC 393 is a specific probiotic bacterial strain, formerly classified as Lactobacillus casei, which serves as the type strain for its species. It is widely utilized in research for its potential therapeutic effects on metabolic and gastrointestinal health. The strain functions primarily by modulating the gut microbiota, promoting the growth of beneficial genera such as Coprococcus and Bacteroides while suppressing potentially harmful taxa. In preclinical models of hyperlipidemia, L. casei ATCC 393 has demonstrated the ability to significantly reduce serum glucose, total cholesterol, and triglycerides, as well as alleviate hepatic lipid accumulation and systemic inflammation (evidenced by reduced IL-6 levels). It is frequently studied in synbiotic combinations with prebiotics like d-tagatose to enhance its metabolic benefits.
