Overview

*Lacticaseibacillus paracasei* LP-16 is a probiotic bacterial strain investigated for its potential anti-obesity and lipid-lowering properties. In preclinical models, LP-16 has demonstrated the ability to significantly reduce body weight, lower blood lipid levels, and alleviate liver oxidative stress. Its mechanism of action involves modulating the gut microbiota composition—specifically by adjusting the Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes ratio—to limit excess energy absorption and promoting the production of beneficial metabolites such as short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs). Additionally, LP-16 appears to regulate gut metabolism by decreasing bile acids and long-chain fatty acids while increasing short peptides and vitamins, thereby improving overall host gut health and addressing metabolic disorders like hyperlipidemia. It also enhances the activity of antioxidant enzymes, including superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), while reducing pro-inflammatory markers and oxidative stress indicators like malondialdehyde (MDA).
