Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus CRL 2244 extract is a cell-free conditioned media extract containing secreted metabolites (<3 kDa) from the Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus CRL 2244 strain. It is being investigated as an antimicrobial and antivirulence agent against multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacterial pathogens, including carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (CRAB), methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), and carbapenemase-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae (KPC). The extract exhibits bactericidal activity, inhibits bacterial adhesion and biofilm formation, and downregulates key virulence-associated genes (such as hla, lukAB, fnbA, and icaA in MRSA) without inducing cytotoxic effects in human serum. It also demonstrates synergistic effects when combined with standard antibiotics like beta-lactams.
