Overview

Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus CRL1505 is a **probiotic bacterial strain**, originally isolated from goat milk, notable for its immunomodulatory activity[2][4]. It has been extensively studied in both pre-clinical and clinical settings for its capacity to enhance respiratory and intestinal immunity[1][2][3]. The **mechanism of action** involves modulation of host innate and adaptive immune responses, including increased production of anti-inflammatory cytokines (notably IL-10 and IL-27), heightened mucosal IgA levels, and activation of alveolar macrophages[1][2][3]. The heat-stable peptidoglycan (PG05) component of CRL1505 has demonstrated strain-specific immunomodulatory activity contributing to its beneficial effects. In randomized trials, daily oral administration of CRL1505 reduced the incidence of upper respiratory tract infections, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, and acute diarrhea in children, and lowered the need for antibiotics[2][3]. Pre-clinical data also support its ability to reduce lung injury and inflammation in various viral (RSV, influenza) and bacterial (Streptococcus pneumoniae, Klebsiella pneumoniae) infection models[1][2].
