Overview

Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus HM126 is a probiotic bacterial strain isolated from healthy human breast milk, currently under investigation for the treatment of allergic and inflammatory disorders, including atopic dermatitis and allergic rhinitis. As a live biotherapeutic product, it functions by modulating the gut-skin and gut-respiratory axes. The strain helps maintain the balance between type 1 (Th1) and type 2 (Th2) immune responses, leading to a reduction in inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin-4 (IL-4) and a decrease in immunoglobulin E (IgE) levels. Preclinical studies have demonstrated its ability to reshape gut microbiota composition and metabolites, resulting in reduced scratching frequency and skin lesion severity in atopic dermatitis models, as well as alleviation of nasal symptoms in allergic rhinitis.
