Overview

Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus LRH020 (DSM 25568) is a specific probiotic strain of the species Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus. It is used as a live biotherapeutic product and dietary supplement, primarily for gastrointestinal health, modulation of the gut-brain axis, and support in sports nutrition. This strain has demonstrated anti-inflammatory activity and potential benefits in allergy management and prevention or adjunctive treatment of vaginal candidiasis. Mechanistically, L. rhamnosus strains are known to adhere to intestinal epithelial cells, compete with pathogens for adhesion sites, produce antimicrobial compounds (such as bacteriocins), modulate immune responses by influencing cytokine profiles, enhance mucosal barrier function, and alter local pH to inhibit pathogen growth. The LRH020 strain has been studied both alone and in combination with other probiotics for its ability to inhibit urogenital pathogens such as Candida glabrata, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Trichomonas vaginalis, and Escherichia coli without impairing epithelial tissue integrity[1][6]. It is available commercially from SynBalance SRL.
