Overview

**Lactiplantibacillus plantarum DAD-13** is a specific probiotic strain of Lactiplantibacillus plantarum, originally isolated from "dadih", a traditional Indonesian fermented buffalo milk product[4]. This strain has been shown to survive passage through the gastrointestinal tract, adhere to intestinal mucosa, and exert beneficial physiological effects—such as modulating intestinal inflammation, enhancing production of short-chain fatty acids (specifically propionate and butyrate), and regulating immune responses by increasing anti-inflammatory cytokines (IL-10) and decreasing pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-6, IL-1β)[1][2][4]. It also produces bacteriocins with inhibitory activity against enteric pathogens. The mechanism is considered immune-modulatory and microbiome-modifying, providing potential benefits in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)[1][2] and has been studied in sepsis for reducing inflammation[3]. Its genome carries genes supporting acid and bile tolerance, mucosal adherence, pathogen exclusion (competition), and bacteriocin (antimicrobial peptide) production[4].
