*Lactiplantibacillus plantarum* dfa1 is a specific probiotic bacterial strain investigated for its potential to mitigate metabolic disorders, including obesity and prediabetes. In preclinical models, the strain has demonstrated the ability to reduce weight gain, improve lipid profiles, and lower fasting glucose and insulin resistance (HOMA-IR). Its mechanism involves direct cellular protection of the intestinal barrier, evidenced by increased expression of tight junction proteins like occludin-1 and reduced enterocyte injury. Additionally, it modulates the gut microbiome, notably increasing the abundance of beneficial bacteria such as *Akkermansia* spp. and elevating fecal short-chain fatty acids. The strain also exhibits anti-inflammatory properties by suppressing mediators like NF-κB, TNF-α, and IL-6 in both intestinal and hepatic cell lines.
