Overview

Lactiplantibacillus plantarum HFY11 (LP-HFY11) is a specific strain of lactic acid bacteria classified as a probiotic biologic. [2-19] It was originally isolated from naturally fermented yak yogurt found on the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau. [2-19] The strain is being investigated for its therapeutic potential in various gastrointestinal conditions. [2-11, 2-15, 1-13, 1-14, 3-3, 3-4] Preclinical studies in mouse models have suggested its efficacy in managing lincomycin-induced diarrhea, loperamide-induced constipation, and oxazolone-induced colitis. [2-11, 2-15, 1-13, 1-14, 3-3, 3-4] Its mechanism of action is believed to be multifactorial, involving the modulation of the gut microbiota composition, enhancement of intestinal peristalsis, and maintenance of the intestinal barrier function. [1-13, 1-14] Furthermore, LP-HFY11 has demonstrated the ability to regulate immune responses by altering cytokine levels (e.g., increasing IL-2 and decreasing IL-10 and IL-8) and reduce oxidative stress by modulating markers such as MPO, NO, and MDA in the colon. No commercial developer has been identified.
