Overview
Lactiplantibacillus plantarum IS-10506 is a specific probiotic strain of bacteria isolated from Dadih, a traditional Indonesian fermented buffalo milk. It is being investigated for its potential therapeutic effects in managing inflammatory skin conditions, including psoriasis vulgaris and atopic dermatitis. Administered orally, this probiotic is thought to exert its effects by modulating the gut microbiome and influencing the gut-skin axis. Clinical studies suggest that supplementation with L. plantarum IS-10506 can lead to improvements in clinical outcomes such as the Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) and the Scoring Atopic Dermatitis (SCORAD) index. Mechanistically, it appears to rebalance the immune system by significantly decreasing levels of the pro-inflammatory cytokine IL-17 while increasing the anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10 and the regulatory T-cell transcription factor Foxp3. These immunomodulatory effects suggest it may serve as a beneficial adjuvant therapy for chronic inflammatory skin diseases.
