Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lactiplantibacillus plantarum LP3 (also known as CBT LP3) is a probiotic bacterial strain developed and produced by Cell Biotech. [3-20, 14] The live bacterial strain is the active ingredient and is being investigated for its therapeutic properties. [3-20] Studies have explored its potential in treating obesity, metabolic disorders, and inflammatory bowel conditions like colitis. In high-fat diet-induced obesity models, it has been shown to cause significant reductions in body weight and total fat mass. [3-4, 3-7, 3-9] The proposed mechanism for its anti-obesity effects involves the promotion of lipid catabolism through the upregulation of lipolytic genes (Sirt1, Pparα) and the downregulation of lipogenic genes (Srebp1c, Fas). [3-11] Additionally, it has been demonstrated in mouse models to ameliorate colitis by modulating T cells. [1, 6-1, 6-17] The strain has achieved a "No Objection" notice for GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) status from the U.S. FDA for use in dairy products. [14]
