Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lactiplantibacillus plantarum PBS067 is a specific probiotic strain developed by SynBalance Srl. It has been investigated for its beneficial effects on oral, urogenital, skin, and gastrointestinal health. Research indicates it has antimicrobial and anti-adhesive properties against various pathogens, including those involved in dental caries and periodontal disease (Streptococcus mutans and Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans) and urogenital infections (Candida glabrata, Neisseria gonorrheae, Trichomonas vaginalis, and Escherichia coli). [1, 2] Its mechanism of action involves competing with pathogens, producing antimicrobial substances like organic acids, strengthening epithelial barriers, and modulating the immune system. [2, 4, 5] For instance, when studied as part of an oral combination supplement in post-menopausal women, it helped restore a healthy vaginal microbiota, reduce levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-6, IL-1β, and TNF-α, and improve symptoms of vaginal atrophy. [1] It is also utilized in cosmetic products for its purported ability to balance the skin microbiome and reinforce the skin's natural barrier. [2]
