Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lactiplantibacillus plantarum Probio87 is a specific probiotic strain developed and studied by Universiti Sains Malaysia. It is being investigated for its therapeutic potential in managing Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infections. In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial (NCT05316064), oral administration of L. plantarum Probio87 at a dose of 9 log CFU/day for 12 weeks was shown to significantly reduce vaginal HPV abundance. [6] The proposed mechanism involves the modulation of both the gut and vaginal microbiome, leading to an increase in beneficial Lactobacillus species and a decrease in pathogenic microbes. [5, 8] This modulation is believed to enhance local immunity, reduce inflammation, and improve the overall quality of life for HPV-positive women. [6]
