Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lactiplantibacillus plantarum TWK10 is a specific strain of probiotic bacteria originally isolated from Taiwanese kimchi. [2, 6, 9] It is developed and manufactured by Synbio Tech Inc. and is investigated for its health benefits, particularly in the areas of sports nutrition, muscle health, obesity, and constipation. [1, 5, 7] Clinical and preclinical studies suggest that TWK10 exerts its effects by modulating the gut microbiome, increasing the production of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), downregulating transcription factors related to adipocytes, and regulating gastrointestinal hormones. It has been shown to improve cardiorespiratory endurance, reduce body fat, increase muscle mass, and alleviate constipation. [10] The strain has received a Self-affirmed GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) status in the United States and has been approved for health claims related to anti-fatigue in Taiwan. [3, 12] It is available as both a live probiotic and a heat-killed postbiotic, allowing for its use in a variety of dietary supplements and functional foods. [1]
