Drug intelligence / Profile preview
EPS-WB4404 is a crude exopolysaccharide derived from *Lactiplantibacillus plantarum* strain WB4404, a probiotic bacterium isolated from kimchi. [1] In an *in vitro* study, EPS-WB4404 demonstrated anticancer activity by reducing the viability of HT-29 human colorectal cancer cells. [1, 2] This suggests that metabolites from the bacterium, such as this exopolysaccharide, contribute to the overall pro-apoptotic effect of the parent strain, which has been shown to induce the intrinsic cell death pathway. [1, 2]
