Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lactiplantibacillus plantarum Zhang-LL is a specific probiotic strain of the species Lactiplantibacillus plantarum (formerly Lactobacillus plantarum). It has been researched for its potential role in managing atopic dermatitis (AD), a chronic inflammatory skin condition. In experimental settings, the strain has been tested via oral administration of live cells and topical application of fermented supernatants. While some probiotics modulate the immune system by increasing regulatory T cells or reducing pro-inflammatory cytokines like IL-4 and IL-17, Zhang-LL showed limited therapeutic impact on pathological indices such as ear swelling and mast cell infiltration in dinitrofluorobenzene-induced mouse models compared to other strains like Bifidobacterium animalis J12.
