Overview

Lactiplantibacillus rhamnosus NBM17-4 is a specific probiotic bacterial strain isolated from the feces of healthy Korean adults. It has demonstrated potential anti-diabetic effects in preclinical studies, particularly by improving insulin sensitivity and pancreatic function while reducing liver steatosis in animal models of type 2 diabetes (T2D). The mechanism appears to involve upregulation of interleukin-22 (IL-22), which enhances metabolic health parameters. This strain is being investigated as a candidate for both therapeutic treatment and prevention of T2D and other metabolic diseases such as hyperlipidemia[1][2][6]. It is not currently known to be marketed under any brand name.
