Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lacto-B is a probiotic dietary supplement and microbial therapy primarily used to treat diarrhea and restore the balance of intestinal microflora, particularly in children and malnourished populations. Manufactured as a powder in sachets, it contains a specific blend of beneficial bacteria including *Lactobacillus acidophilus*, *Bifidobacterium longum*, and *Streptococcus thermophilus*. The formulation is often enriched with essential vitamins such as thiamine (B1), riboflavin (B2), pyridoxine (B6), niacin (B3), and ascorbic acid (C), as well as zinc. Lacto-B works by populating the gastrointestinal tract with healthy bacteria that competitively exclude pathogens, enhance the mucosal barrier, and modulate the host's immune response. Research indicates that its administration can lead to a significant decrease in pro-inflammatory cytokines like Tumor Necrosis Factor (TNF) and an increase in anti-inflammatory cytokines such as Interleukin-10 (IL-10).
