Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This multispecies synbiotic is a live biotherapeutic product developed by Nobel Ilac and Cell Biotech Co. for the treatment of exogenous obesity in children and adolescents. The formulation consists of five probiotic strains—*Lactobacillus acidophilus*, *Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus*, *Bifidobacterium bifidum*, *Bifidobacterium longum*, and *Enterococcus faecium*—at a total concentration of 2.5 x 10^9 CFU per sachet. These are combined with the prebiotics fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS) and lactulose, and enriched with a complex of vitamins (A, B1, B2, B6, C, and E). Administered orally, the product functions by modulating the gut microbiota composition, specifically decreasing the Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes ratio and increasing the relative abundance of beneficial genera such as *Prevotella* and *Dialister*. Clinical results from the Probesity-2 trial demonstrated that this synbiotic, as an adjunct to standard diet and exercise, leads to significant improvements in anthropometric measurements, including reductions in body weight, BMI, and waist circumference.
