Overview

Lactobacillus acidophilus 145 is a specific strain of the probiotic species *Lactobacillus acidophilus*, a gram-positive, acid-tolerant bacterium naturally found in the human gastrointestinal tract, mouth, and vagina. As a probiotic, L. acidophilus 145 is administered to help restore and maintain a healthy balance of intestinal microbiota. It acts primarily by producing lactic acid from carbohydrate fermentation, inhibiting pathogenic organisms, improving gut barrier function, and modulating the immune response. A 2007 dietary intervention study in humans demonstrated that L. acidophilus 145 (used in combination with Bifidobacterium longum 913) was associated with reduced genotoxicity in fecal water and decreased overall DNA damage in colon cells, indicating a potential protective effect against colon cancer risk[1]. More generally, L. acidophilus strains are used for prevention or management of antibiotic-associated diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome, bacterial vaginosis, Helicobacter pylori infection, and lactose intolerance by enhancing digestive functions and host immune regulation[2][3][5]. This strain does not correspond to a pharmaceutical product but is instead formulated for use as a dietary supplement or as a beneficial ingredient in functional foods, such as probiotic yogurts.
