Overview

Lactobacillus acidophilus AD031 is a probiotic strain that has been investigated for various health benefits. [6] In clinical studies, it has shown efficacy, often in combination with other probiotic strains, in reducing the duration of diarrhea in infants with rotavirus infection, alleviating symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and preventing the development of eczema in high-risk infants. [1, 4, 5] Preclinical studies in mice suggest it has anti-obesity effects by reducing liver triglycerides and improving hepatic steatosis, and can suppress allergic responses in food allergy models. [2, 6] The mechanism of action is believed to involve modulation of the host's immune system. [6] For instance, it can influence cytokine production by dendritic cells, decrease pro-inflammatory markers, and increase anti-inflammatory markers like TGF-β. [3]
