Overview

Lactobacillus acidophilus BCMC 12130 is a specific probiotic bacterial strain developed by B-Crobes Laboratories Sdn. Bhd. It is a live microorganism biologic intended for oral administration. While it is one of six strains included in the multi-strain probiotic product HEXBIO, it has distinct mechanisms. One such mechanism is the production of the Bile Salt Hydrolase (BSH) enzyme, which modulates bile acids to increase colonic water secretion and stimulate gut motility. As part of HEXBIO, it has been clinically evaluated for its immunomodulatory effects, particularly its ability to reduce pro-inflammatory cytokines like TNF-α and various interleukins in post-surgical colorectal cancer patients. Studies also suggest its potential use in managing constipation in Parkinson's disease, primary dysmenorrhea, and metabolic parameters in overweight individuals.
