Overview

Lactobacillus acidophilus LA14 is a well-characterized probiotic strain of lactic acid bacterium of human origin. It has been documented in over 100 scientific studies and more than 35 clinical trials. This strain is known for its ability to support women's health—particularly vaginal and urinary tract health—by promoting healthy vaginal colonization and microbiota through oral supplementation. It also supports immune function by modulating both innate and adaptive immunity, helps maintain a balanced gut microbiome, improves nutrient absorption, reduces inflammation and bloating, and may help prevent or alleviate liver injury by modulating the gut-liver axis[1][2][3][6]. The mechanism includes production of bacteriocins (antimicrobial peptides), competitive exclusion of pathogens in the urogenital tract and intestine, oxalate degradation (potentially beneficial for kidney stone prevention), modulation of inflammatory cytokines (e.g., MIP-1α/3α/MCP-1), enhancement of beneficial bacteria populations such as Bifidobacterium species in the gut[2][8]. The safety profile is strong with GRAS status from FDA for use as a food ingredient[7], long history of safe consumption in foods like yogurt/fermented milk products[8], and no significant adverse effects reported.
