Overview

This investigational live biotherapeutic product (LBP) is a specific five-strain probiotic blend consisting of *Lactobacillus acidophilus* NCFM, *Lactobacillus paracasei* Lpc-37, *Bifidobacterium lactis* Bi-04, *Bifidobacterium lactis* Bi-07, and *Bifidobacterium bifidum* Bb-02. Developed by Aché Laboratórios Farmacêuticos in collaboration with the Universidade Federal de Alfenas, the therapy is designed to modulate the gut-brain axis to address neurodegenerative conditions. Administered orally, the blend aims to reshape the gut microbiota and subsequently influence systemic inflammatory and neurotrophic markers. Clinical investigations in older adults have demonstrated that the product can modulate levels of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), glial cell-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF), and nerve growth factor (NGF), suggesting a potential therapeutic role in managing mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and Alzheimer's disease (AD).
