Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lactobacillus BSL_PS71 is a specific probiotic strain of the genus *Lactobacillus* developed as a live biotherapeutic product (LBP). It is being investigated for its ability to modulate the vaginal microbiota and reduce the colonization of *Streptococcus agalactiae* (Group B Streptococcus, GBS) in healthy women. GBS colonization is a significant clinical concern during pregnancy as it is a major risk factor for neonatal infections. The drug is administered orally, and its mechanism involves the competitive exclusion of pathogens or the production of antimicrobial substances that inhibit the growth of GBS on the vaginal mucosa. LGC Biosearch Technologies is the primary developer conducting clinical evaluations of this strain.
