Overview

Lactobacillus casei ŁOCK 0918 is a specific probiotic bacterial strain. It is a component of a three-strain probiotic preparation used for the dietary management of atopic dermatitis (AD) and cow's milk protein allergy, particularly in children under two years of age. [1, 2, 3] This preparation is supplied by the Polish company Biomed S.A. and marketed under the brand name Latopic. [8, 9, 10] The full combination includes Lactobacillus rhamnosus ŁOCK 0900 and Lactobacillus rhamnosus ŁOCK 0908. [1] Lactobacillus casei ŁOCK 0918 is a biologic therapy consisting of live bacteria administered orally at a daily dose of 10^9 total bacteria for the combination product. [1] Its mechanism of action involves improving the integrity of the intestinal epithelial barrier. [15, 17] Experimental studies have shown that the ŁOCK strains enhance the gut barrier by activating proteins like zonulin and occludin, which are crucial for forming tight junctions between intestinal cells. Clinical trials have demonstrated that treatment with the probiotic mixture leads to a significantly higher percentage of children showing improvement in AD symptoms compared to placebo. [1]
