Overview

**Lactobacillus casei DG** (also classified as *Lacticaseibacillus paracasei* DG) is a proprietary probiotic strain originally isolated from human feces and developed by SOFAR S.p.A. It is deposited at the Pasteur Institute under the accession number CNCM I-1572. This strain is characterized by its ability to survive gastric transit, resist bile acids, and robustly adhere to and colonize the human intestinal mucosa. Mechanistically, it functions as a microbiome therapy and live biotherapeutic, modulating the gut microbiota composition and attenuating mucosal inflammatory responses by downregulating pro-inflammatory cytokines (such as IL-1α, IL-6, and IL-8) and Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR-4) expression while upregulating the regulatory cytokine interleukin-10 (IL-10). It is commercialized under the **Enterolactis** brand family and has been clinically evaluated for various gastrointestinal and systemic conditions, including irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), diverticular disease, ulcerative colitis, pouchitis, constipation in Parkinson's disease, *Helicobacter pylori* eradication, and chronic bacterial prostatitis.
