Lactobacillus casei DN-114001

Lactobacillus casei DN-114001, also known by its current nomenclature Lacticaseibacillus paracasei subsp. paracasei and code CNCM I-1518, is a probiotic bacterial strain developed by Danone. [3, 11] It is the active ingredient in the fermented dairy drinks marketed as Actimel in Europe and DanActive in the United States. [3, 4] As a live biologic organism, this probiotic is designed to survive gastrointestinal transit to modify the gut microflora and enhance the host's immune system. Its mechanism of action is multifactorial, involving adhesion to intestinal epithelial cells, inhibition of pathogenic bacteria, strengthening of the gut barrier function, and modulation of the immune system. [21] The strain has been clinically studied for the prevention and treatment of various conditions, including different forms of diarrhea (such as antibiotic-associated diarrhea), atopic dermatitis, common infectious diseases, inflammatory bowel diseases, and respiratory infections. [3, 7, 16, 17]
