Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lactobacillus casei LBC80R is a proprietary probiotic strain of the species *Lacticaseibacillus casei* (formerly *Lactobacillus casei*) developed by Bio-K+. It is a primary component of the Bio-K+ probiotic product line, which typically features a combination of three strains: L. casei LBC80R, L. rhamnosus CLR2, and L. acidophilus CL1285. The strain is designed to support digestive and immune health by modulating the intestinal microbiota, enhancing the gut barrier function, and competing with pathogens for nutrients and adhesion sites. Clinical studies have demonstrated that the Bio-K+ multi-strain formula is effective in reducing the risk of antibiotic-associated diarrhea (AAD) and Clostridioides difficile infections (CDI) in hospitalized patients. It is commercially available in various oral formats, including fermented dairy and soy beverages as well as enteric-coated capsules.
