Overview

Lactobacillus casei pgsA is a recombinant live bacterial platform technology designed for the surface display of therapeutic antigens. Developed by MOA Life Plus Co. Ltd. and Future & Tech Corp., the system utilizes the poly-gamma-glutamate synthetase A (pgsA) protein from *Bacillus subtilis* as a transmembrane anchoring matrix to express target proteins on the cell surface of *Lactobacillus casei*. Its primary therapeutic application, BLS-M22, expresses a modified human myostatin protein. Upon oral administration, the live bacteria interact with gut-associated lymphoid tissue (GALT) to induce mucosal and systemic immune responses, specifically generating anti-myostatin IgG antibodies. These antibodies neutralize myostatin, a member of the TGF-β superfamily that negatively regulates skeletal muscle growth. By inhibiting myostatin, the therapy aims to preserve muscle mass and improve motor function in patients with muscle-wasting conditions such as Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD).
