Overview
Lactobacillus crispatus BC4 is a probiotic bacterial strain investigated for its potential as a live biotherapeutic product (LBP) to support vaginal and intestinal health. Originally isolated from the vaginal microbiota of healthy women, this strain is noted for its ability to produce antimicrobial compounds, including lactic acid and hydrogen peroxide, and to form protective biofilms. It is being studied for its capacity to prevent or treat vaginal dysbiosis, such as bacterial vaginosis and vulvovaginal candidiasis, and to modulate the gut microbiome in post-menopausal women.
