Overview

LACTIN-V is a live biotherapeutic product (LBP) under development by Osel, Inc. It contains a single, proprietary strain of bacteria, Lactobacillus crispatus CTV-05, which is a naturally occurring component of a healthy vaginal microbiome. Administered vaginally, LACTIN-V is designed to colonize the vagina and restore a healthy, protective microbial environment. The proposed mechanism of action involves the production of hydrogen peroxide and other beneficial substances by L. crispatus, which helps to inhibit the growth of pathogenic bacteria. Clinical trials have investigated its efficacy in preventing the recurrence of bacterial vaginosis (BV) and urinary tract infections (UTIs), as well as its potential to improve in-vitro fertilization (IVF) success rates, prevent preterm birth, and reduce the risk of HIV acquisition.
