Overview

Lactobacillus crispatus IP174178 (Physioflor) is a live biotherapeutic product (LBP) consisting of a specific strain of *Lactobacillus crispatus* isolated from the vaginal tract of healthy women. Developed by Laboratoires IPRAD PHARMA, it is designed to restore and maintain a healthy, Lactobacillus-dominant vaginal microbiome. The strain is Gram-positive, catalase-negative, and produces hydrogen peroxide and lactic acid, which inhibit the overgrowth of pathogenic bacteria associated with dysbiosis. It also exhibits strong adherence to the vaginal epithelium. It is primarily indicated for the treatment and prevention of recurrence of bacterial vaginosis (BV). Clinical evaluation includes Phase III trials comparing its efficacy to metronidazole and assessing its role in preventing BV recurrence following antibiotic therapy.
