Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lactobacillus fermentum CCFM1139 is a specific probiotic bacterial strain isolated and identified for its beneficial effects on oral health, particularly in the prevention and treatment of periodontitis (gum disease). This strain has demonstrated the ability to inhibit the formation of mixed-species biofilms composed of key periodontal pathogens such as Porphyromonas gingivalis, Prevotella intermedia, and Fusobacterium nucleatum. In cellular models, it significantly reduces pro-inflammatory cytokines TNF-α and IL-8 while increasing tight junction protein Occludin expression, indicating anti-inflammatory properties and enhancement of epithelial barrier function. The strain is considered safe for human use with no reported adverse effects. Its primary application is as an active ingredient in functional foods or pharmaceuticals aimed at oral health improvement[1][2][3].
