Overview

*Lactobacillus fermentum* CQPC04 is a specific probiotic bacterial strain originally isolated from traditional Sichuan pickles (Paocai). It is being researched for its potential therapeutic applications in metabolic disorders, particularly hyperlipidemia and hyperglycemia. The strain functions by modulating the gut microbiota and influencing systemic metabolic pathways. Research indicates that CQPC04 activates the AMPK (AMP-activated protein kinase) and SIRT1 (Sirtuin 1) signaling pathways, which in turn regulates the expression of genes involved in lipid metabolism, such as PPAR-α (Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha) and LXR-α (Liver X receptor alpha). In preclinical models, administration of this strain has been shown to significantly reduce total cholesterol, triglycerides, and blood glucose levels while improving antioxidant capacity and reducing inflammation. The development is primarily associated with research institutions in China, including The First People's Hospital of Kunshan and Chongqing University of Education.
